*Accents are used in Spanish writing to denote where the specific syllable needs to be reinforced. Telephone in Spanish writing should have an accent on the second syllable vowel because the syllable has a stronger sound. For beginners, you can clap while pronouncing each syllable and whichever syllable has a stronger pronunciation like te-le-fo-no is where the vowel has an accent.
