Rejoicing in the LORD
“But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy and spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may exult in you. For you, bless the righteous, O LORD; you cover him with favor as with a shield.” – Psalm 5:11-12

When we think of protection, we think of castles or high walls that provide fortification to towns and cities. Many towns or cities in the past had high towers that were used to guard cities and towns. These tools served as a way for people to feel protected. Similarly, the LORD spreads his protection over those who delight in His will and commandments. The LORD is greater than all these physical fortifications, but the imagery they provide allow us to understand visibly how we are being guarded and protected by the LORD.
We simply do not follow the commandments and delight to do His will for the purpose of self-righteousness and boasting, it is because we love the LORD. We love His statutes and understand that the reason for the commandments are to help us. They are not limitations in general, but are safeguards against behaviors or actions that will leave us devastated. He is offering us protection from actions that may damage us. This allows us to sing for joy because the presence of the LORD is with us. We are able to feel the peace and joy that He brings to us.
These are all expressions that believers show their love for the LORD. They sing for joy to the LORD and love His name. I love you brothers and sisters.
