“I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.” – Ezekiel 36:25-27

When we attempt to comprehend what it means to have a heart of stone, it may be quite difficult to understand. To have a heart stone means that an individual may actually be unfeeling and unable to care about important matters. The heart of stone is a symbol of coldness that has reached to the whole body affecting not only beliefs but also thinking. How can a heart of stone be remedied?

Ezekiel 36 states how this can be remedied. The only way to change this condition is to plead to the LORD and ask for forgiveness. Whatever has caused our hearts to grow cold can be changed through the intervention of the LORD. In Ezekiel, we get this example of how He is able to renovate us into something new. Our cold hearts can become alive again and feel. This is done only by the workings of the LORD. It is stated that the Holy Spirit will be allowed to enter and allow us to walk in the LORD’s statutes.

The heart of flesh is a feeling heart. A heart that can experience emotion not for the sake of experiencing emotion, but so that it can feel and act accordingly. Throughout the Holy Bible the heart is something special that allows us to speak good or evil, that has the ability to show our inner thoughts and beliefs, and that is able to feel accordingly. Therefore, when we follow the commands of the LORD and love the LORD, we are able to change our heart from that which was cold to a feeling heart. A heart that is able to produce warmth in ourselves and those around us. A heart that is willing to help and love without conditions or an agenda and that is selfless.
