“When I applied my heart to know wisdom, and to see the business that is done on earth, how neither day nor night do one’s eyes see sleep, then I saw all the work of GOD, that man cannot find out the work that is done under the sun. However much man may toil in seeking, he will not find it out. Even though a wise man claims to know, he cannot find it out.” – Ecclesiastes 8: 16-17

There are many things that we attempt to understand from multiple point of views and still may not be able to figure out. Instances of attempting to concentrate our efforts in knowing specifically about something in particular can actually be simple for simple items but can become complex. In Ecclesiastes, we are reminded that we are not able to comprehend some events and that is totally understandable.

There are situations that don’t make sense and even when we try to think about them and replay them, they don’t make sense. There must be a higher purpose that is part of everything that unites or divides at a specific moment, but sometimes attempting to figure out what exactly it is is difficult. Whether as a way to prevent us from being affected by the depth of knowledge required in order to understand, some things are better left alone.

Discernment is important in understanding our path however. Even when we may not understand how everything fits together, we are instructed to follow the commandments and to love. We are instructed to keep trying and focusing on walking a straight path even when we slip or fall. While we cannot know everything, we can be safeguarded by the commandments and following them to prevent us from straying into other roads.
