“Blessed are the people who know the festal shout, who walk, O LORD, in the light of your face, who exult in your name all the day and in your righteousness are exalted. For you are the glory of their strength; by your favor our horn is exalted. For our shield belongs to the LORD, our king to the Holy One of Israel.” – Psalm 89: 15-18

We are told in the Psalm specifically Psalm 89:15-18 that the people who follow GOD and know righteousness and are praising His name throughout the day are blessed. We are reminded of the importance of worship and the importance that GOD places on worship. As believers we are able to praise GOD’s name throughout the day and walk in righteousness. We are also reminded that those who are blessed walk in the light of the face of GOD meaning that they have a path that is secure and safe.

GOD is the glory of our strength and through GOD we are able to continue praising and worshipping. Similar to David and multiple stories in the Bible, GOD is our strength and refuge. We are strong through GOD who gives us strength for the battle and helps us. He exalts the horn of the righteous meaning the instrument that is used to indicate battle or victory is exalted through our GOD through His strength and through His divine help.

We are reminded of the shield that helps us against the attacks of our enemies and the deception and lies that are brought against true believers. Similar to the New Testament where we are told to place the armor of GOD, we are reminded that we are to keep our shield to be protected. While in the Psalm it may indicate a physical shield, it can also mean a spiritual shield that protects us. We are told to keep our faith secure, and we can keep our faith secure through prayer and praising GOD. All our strength and protection is from GOD. All our hope and faith is from GOD. We must be able to keep GOD at the center of our lives.
