“Then I set apart twelve of the leading priests: Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and ten of their kinsmen with them. And I weighted out to them the silver and the gold and the vessels, the offering for the house of our GOD that the king and his counselors and his lords and all Israel there present had offered. I weighted out into their hand 650 talents of silver, and silver vessels worth 200 talents, and 100 talents of gold, 20 bowls of gold worth 1,000 darics, and two vessels of fine bright bronze as previous as gold. And I said to them, ‘You are holy to the LORD, and the vessels are holy , and the silver and the gold are a freewill offering to the LORD, the GOD of your fathers. Guard them and keep them until you weigh them before the chief priests and the Levites and the heads of fathers’ houses in Israel at Jerusalem, within the chambers of the house of the LORD.’ So the priests and the Levites took over the eight of the silver and the gold and the vessels, to bring them to Jerusalem, to the house of our GOD.” – Ezra 8: 24-30

Now that we know that Ezra has the ability to preach and teach in the great city we understand that he has several tasks to do before he can begin teaching. We know that he needed to organize the men who would be at the specific teaching places as well as organize the necessities such as the gold and silver that would be given as offerings to the LORD. These were customs that continued from previous times when the temple was filled with vessels of gold and silver and amounts that showed that GOD was in control and everything in the earth is His.

We see that everything is taking place at an appropriate time as Ezra continues praying and placing all his trust in the LORD in order to begin the worship and teaching at the designated time. There has been a progression of events that tell us that GOD does not forsake or abandon those that are His but allows us to endure through situations in order to gain clarity, understanding, and knowledge of His will in our lives. Ezra prayed and continued holding on to the will of GOD first as a scribe and then as a priest being able to help teach people in the temple and also organizing the things of importance within the establishment of the temple in time of the exiles.

GOD did not abandon His people or Ezra during these difficult times. GOD was present through the exile, through the pauses in construction, through the adversaries’ attacks, through the order to build, through the building and construction, through the organization and dedications, and through every specific situation that takes place. We see a faithful GOD that does not leave us or abandon us. He is present through it all. We see that Ezra has faith in this chapter as he even goes on his journey asking GOD for guidance and to keep his people through the journey. GOD keeps Ezra and his people and continues showing his faithfulness through the circumstances that take place.

We see that the LORD loves our humility in understanding that although situations may appear unfavorable, He is able to turn them into blessings. We see an Ezra that is humble in making sure that his people are able to be sustained through their journey and prays for them through the events. Ezra prays and seeks the good will of his people through the adversities and seeks to be an example of goodness through the will of GOD. He is sure to follow the will of GOD and continues following the orders of GOD as he seeks to make sure that his goal is completed.

We see in Ezra the ability to serve through humility. We see his gratefulness and cheer when he is placed to serve GOD in a position that was highly important for the establishment of the great city and temple. We see a similar desire as King David had of wanting to build a house for the LORD and want to have everything ready in a respectful and faithful manner. We see the similar faith in Jesus Christ who teaches us to serve our GOD through humility, patience, and love. These characteristics of the faith in the spirit of holiness show us that humility is not an easy trait to have or to develop yet allows for the faithful servant to lead and to guide.
