“And they were both righteous before GOD, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and statutes of the LORD. But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and both were advanced in years.” – Luke 1: 7

We are able to see that prior to the events of the wilderness and of preaching in the river Jordan, John had different characteristics that set him apart. We know that in a similar manner that Abraham and Sarah were unable to bear children until old age, John’s parents were unable to bear until old age. We are reminded of the promises of GOD in being able to see that even when a situation appears impossible, GOD is able to make it possible. We were able to see that John was preaching and baptizing in the desert making sure people were hearing the word of GOD.

We get an understanding of what leads John to accomplish the purpose of GOD. We understand through the scriptures that both of his parents were believers and were righteous before GOD. While they had not been able to have a child, they continued faithful believing in GOD. It states that both parents were born from the priesthood. We see that John continues in a different manner that is not through the priesthood in the city, but by being able to preach in the wilderness and in the river Jordan. We see that GOD reaches out to us and allows us to understand our need for his word.

We see that when we have faith in GOD, we are able to experience a change in circumstances that are for the good of His believers and the good of the kingdom of GOD. We are able to see that we are able to experience great things if we begin to trust and believe that GOD will make all things good. Similar to Abraham and Sarah, we are able to see how Zechariah and Elizabeth are able to accomplish the purpose of GOD in their lives by being righteous, walking blamelessly in the commandments, and having faith.
