“And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising GOD and saying,

‘Glory to GOD in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!’

When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to another, ‘Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the LORD has made known to us.” – Luke 2: 13-15

Initially in the account of Luke there was only one angel present indicating to the shepherds the birth of Jesus. After the angel had stated what would take place to the shepherds, there were a multitude angels seen that began praising GOD. We are able to see that GOD gives peace to those with whom He is pleased and allows us to understand that the angels were accomplishing the purpose that GOD had given them. With the sound and sight of the angels, the shepherds made sure to go to Bethlehem right away and be able to see the events that the angel foretold.

We are able to see that GOD has decided the events that are to take place. We see that GOD, the Father, is in control of all life, all events, and everything that happens on earth. We are able to see that the angels act as messengers being able to tell human beings what is to occur in the future (Daniel), give a message about the present (Ezekiel), or instruct them to change (Revelation). We are able to see that GOD knows what has happened, what is happening, and what will happen in the future. Through this, we are reminded that GOD gives His believers the ability to feel safe in His belief and faith.

The shepherds were able to see what Mary and Zechariahs had seen. They were able to admire the splendor and might of the messengers and began to fear. The angels show them that there is no need to fear because GOD, the Father, has found them to be righteous and has blessed them with the ability to see the messengers of GOD. We see through the events in Luke that GOD loves His people of Israel by sending His son to redeem His flock and help them regain their course. We also see the angels working as messengers in order for people to believe in GOD and have faith in His promises. The shepherds do not doubt and decide to quickly go and see the child who is to rule as eternal King bringing the New Jerusalem and New Earth.
